Gaidouro Tavern, that in English means “donkey tavern” is located above Strani hill, behind Zakynthos town and not far from the ruins of venetian castle that in ancient time overlooked the city. Our tavern is the only one in the island that has centuries of tradition. Its name comes from the past as long time ago it was an inn that used to give hospitality to people that, travelling with their donkeys, were going to the venetian castle. Our restaurant, open from November to the firsts days of September, has small and nice internal room for the winter, and during the summer our customers can have their dinner on a large balcony with a stunning view on Tsilivě area. While you will admire the view from your table, Julia, the owner, will come with the “disco”, a traditional wood tray where you can choose a variety of fresh made starters. With our Greek typical starters of octopus, meatballs or vegetables today we’re the first tavern of the island that offers dishes with wild pork, game or the traditional Bourieto, an ancient way to cook in the oven fishes with fresh tomatoes and garlic. We always try to present a traditional cuisine not only with starters, but also offering traditional main courses; what we like to do is to keep the typical taste of Greece and Zakynthos. You will have the opportunity to taste dishes prepared with extremely fresh fish, our chicken in white sauce, meat on the spit or try some local wines of our family production. We are sure that you want to appreciate the traditional tastes of Zakynthos, so we wait you in our place to offer you an unforgettable dinner.
